Busy Day

Saturdays are always busy, there is always something needing to be done. This Saturday was no exception.

We headed to Tulsa this morning for a 5-year-old's birthday party at the Tulsa Children's Museum. Cool place. It had the little scenes for kids to play - grocery store, post office, ice cream store, doctor's office, stage, jail, and a playhouse. They also had a huge room with a climbing wall (Jackson's favorite) and a very large climbing structure (Reid's favorite). Two hours later we left...the kids were tired and sweaty and we were tired from watching them scurry around.

After we got home, Damon was back in home improvement mode trying to finish up Jackson's room. We are so close to finishing. The carpets were shampooed and the curtain rod was put up, last night. Today, Damon and a friend of ours put in the ceiling fan. The closet doors are coming along - half of them are up and the other half are sanded and primed in the garage. We will move him back in the room tomorrow.

Damon and Patrick also put in a new light fixture over the kitchen table. Wow....that again just shows us how much we want to change in this house. The new light is COOL! The light also brings a softer light to the dining area and in general just makes the area more attractive. Through the afternoon, we also realized that we need to change out all of the ceiling fans. After we saw Jackson's new white one in, the others in the house went from okay to "my gosh, get those out of my house" very quickly. We will probably replace them as we work on each room, but we know for sure they need to be replaced.

Tonight, I am dealing with a grumpy/tired four-year-old and a tired nine-year-old. Bed time is coming early tonight for everybody. I need to get bills paid and the checkbook updated, so I can concentrate on moving Jackson out of our dining room tomorrow!

And, I need to start thinking about what I am going to pack for next weekend!

Guess what....

....IT IS RAINING...AGAIN! Or, should I just say "still." We actually had two days of no rain and now it is at it again. I think it is has rained every day since February and the gray, dreary days are really getting to me. Oh, and the yellow lab under my feet every time there is heavy rain or thunder. That is getting a bit irritating too.

Jackson's room is almost done and we hope to move his stuff back into his room this weekend. All we have left is a few paint touch-ups, finish painting the closet doors, replace the ceiling fan, and replace the switch plate/outlet plates. We hope to get Jackson completely moved back into his room before Reid starts unloading her room. She is ready for her paint. She tells us daily.

New Blog

Welcome to the new blog!
Xanga just drove me to distraction, so we are trying something new. I hope this will be easier to post on and easier for people to get to my blog.

Let's see..now for updates....
We were in Winfield today to visit Grandma for Mother's Day. Kemper, Vi, Graham and Charlotte also came down and Damon's mom, Kennie, road up with us. We made it a day trip and Grandma was in heaven with all of the hustle and bustle in her apartment. We also made her happy - we took my new sewing machine for her to play with and WE LEFT IT for her to play with. I did explain that I would be coming back for it in a few weeks.

Grandma gave the kids each a new quilt. She had been working on one for Reid, using the fabrics that we had bought her for Christmas. That was not the intent, but Reid spent so much time picking the fabric and showing them to Grandma, that Grandma decided to turn them into a quilt for Reid. Jackson's "blankie" is showing his age, so she also let Jackson pick from several other quilts she had finished. He chose a red/black quilt. I don't think it will take the place of "Blankie" but it might have to if Blankie continues to sprout more holes.

We are finally all healthy again after a week of sickness. Jackson was down Monday and Tuesday and was the sickest I had every seen him. Even sick, Jackson usually acts normal, running around, eating, playing, etc. But, Monday, he was white as a sheet, didn't want to eat, and just wanted to lay around. When I got him to the doctor in Tulsa, he crawled up on the exam table, covered up with his blanket and went to sleep. Not his usual MO at all. Even his doctor was a little freaked out. She couldn't figure out what was causing it, so she treated him for both viral and bacterial infections. He ran a low fever on Tuesday, but was back to himself and back to school on Wednesday. Then, Damon was home sick on Thursday. I fought it off and on all week, as well. We finally decided it was viral, since we were passing it around.

We have started our official Summer of Home Improvement. We started in Jackson's room and, after numerous coats of primer, Damon put color on the wall on Thursday. As he has painted in there and everything looks clean and fresh, the to do/to paint list has grown. Our original plan was a few rooms (Jackson, master, dining room/hallway) has now grown to almost every area of the house except the den. We are resigning ourselves to the house being a complete pit over the next 6-12 months as we tackle all of this. But, it is exciting to make the house ours, which we really needed to do after being here for three years.
